How do I make arrangements for my child to participate?

  1. Contact Big Brothers Big Sisters at #248-2229 to set up an appointment with our enrollment specialist.
  2. Meet with our enrollment specialist to tell us about your child.
  3. We will arrange a meeting where you and the volunteer mentor have the opportunity to meet. This takes place before the volunteer ever meets your child. If you feel comfortable after meeting the volunteer, your child will be invited to the next appointment.
  4. The volunteer and the child are introduced, and go on their first outing. This is a short “getting to know you” outing lasting approximately twenty minutes.

How do I know my child is safe with the volunteer?

Big Brothers Big Sisters is committed to child safety. Each volunteer undergoes a criminal background check and provides three personal references. Each month, an agency staff member corresponds with all parties to make sure things are going well. Parents are encouraged to communicate openly with their children, the volunteer, and agency staff.

How much time does the volunteer spend with my child?

We ask that the volunteer spend four to eight hours a month with your child. We hope that matches develop into long-lasting friendships.

What cost is involved?

There is no cost for enrolling your child in our program. Some outings may cost money. To assist you, we have established a two-for-one program with several supportive area businesses where the Big pays and the Little is allowed to participate at no cost.
